Tara Centybear has been working in curatorial and exhibition management for fine arts museums and galleries for over 15 years. She will be introducing new artists as curator for Oranj Studio's 2022 exhibitions.
In 2018 she relocated to Portland and founded her own art studio, Centybear Studios. Centybear has also worked in public art management for the Port of San Diego and taught college level art classes as well as teaching art in cooperation with the California department of corrections.
In addition to her curatorial practice Centybear is a contemporary painter making work that focuses on the traumas we silently carry with us through our everyday lives. Her masked portraits center on identity and bring attention to personal barriers stemming from prejudices against race, gender, personal trauma, mental illness.
Her work has been exhibited across the globe including in London, Italy, New York, Chicago, San Diego, Seattle, and most recently, Portland. Centybear holds an MFA with distinction from Goldsmiths’ College, University of London, and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
