As an artist, Jo Wollschlaeger draws on her deep and diverse design background to create modern, original quilts. This is evident in her confident use of color, shape, line, and texture to create depth and dynamic compositions with fabric.
Her obsession with textiles kicked off in early childhood, following her mom around in fabric stores, unable to keep her hands off of all of the fabric. In 2019, she first experienced the magic of piecing together leftover strips of fabric, finding deep connection to women quilters, past and present. She loves that textiles are both essential and personal and allow so many paths to weave meaning into each piece. Most recently, she has been exploring the tension between order and chaos, structure and freedom, rules and randomness.
Her award-winning quilts have been exhibited at QuiltCon, the pre-eminent international modern quilt show, and have travelled the world as part of "Selections from QuiltCon 2024". Her quilt “Square Bloom” was one of only twenty quilts selected to hang in the “Modern Quilts at the Dairy Barn” exhibit.
She is based in Portland, OR.
